Women are more likely to save family heirlooms than men when faced with a household emergency, while Generation Y prefer their laptops, a new survey has found.
From a sample of about 1,000 men and women across Australia, 54 per cent of women compared to 49 per cent of men said they would save the treasured family goods if fire or a storm threatened their home.
Meanwhile a quarter of Australians would save their laptop computer before all other items, the Suncorp survey found.
Suncorp spokeswoman Rebecca Aley said people aged 18-24 were more likely to count their laptop as their most valuable asset, while men were more likely to value the plasma TV higher than women.
“Interestingly, one-quarter of Australians said they would save their laptop computer before all other items; suggesting we are increasingly reliant on technology to house all our vital information and possibly even treasured photos and videos of family and friends,” Ms Aley said.
“Older Australians are generally more confident they have the right level of insurance cover to protect their assets.”
