Every single day, more and more people upload brand new websites to the Internet. I don’t have any figures but there must be hundreds of thousands of new pages being added daily (if not considerably more!)

The one thing that all of these new websites need in order to make their existence worthwhile is traffic, which leads me to one of the most common questions I am asked and the subject of this newsletter:
 
‘How can you generate traffic to a brand new website?’
 
Of course, there are a number of different answers to this question and what I would do myself is probably very different to what a completely new Internet entrepreneur would do. The reason I say this is that the first thing I do when launching a new site is make use of my existing website traffic by advertising the new site on my other established sites. In addition, I have the luxury of a large mailing list which I can use to drive traffic to the new site.
 
I appreciate that anyone starting out in online business won’t have these options open to them (and in fairness, neither did I when I first started), so let’s look at things from the beginning. Day one of your first website…..
 
It is a fact that the quickest and probably most effective way of bringing targeted traffic to your website is by paying for it. Now before you rush off and sink $50 into one of those ‘50,000 hits for $50′ schemes, DON’T, this isn’t what I mean. Those schemes are largely a complete waste of money. Even if you get the traffic that you are promised (as opposed to some software script visiting your site and pretending to be a visitor), it will not be targeted and therefore there is a very low chance that the traffic will generate sales. When I talk about buying traffic, I mean by using the pay- per-click services offered by most of the big search engines.
 
You probably already know the sort of thing I mean – for example, Google Adwords. Pretty much any search on Google will display a list of adverts down the right-hand side of the page and these are all paid adverts. Every time you click on one of them, the advertiser pays Google a fixed amount which could be anything from 5 cents upwards (depending upon how competitive the keyword is).
 
Pay-per-click allows you to be very selective about which keywords your advert is shown for and this allows you to target your advertising perfectly. Other big names in the pay-per-click market include Overture, Espotting and Findwhat.
 
Now, before you all start emailing me and saying that you already knew about PPC let me just say that I am well aware that people know about it. The problem (as I see it), is that people aren’t using this type of service because of the fact that they don’t want to spend any money on advertising. That’s all well and good but the fact is that the Internet is getting more and more competitive each day and the chances of you building a successful website business from scratch without investing any money are tiny to say the least.
 
If you want to attract a decent level of traffic to a brand new website in a short period of time, it is almost a necessity that you use pay-per-click on one of the main search engines. If you don’t, then the growth of your traffic levels will be painfully slow and inconsistent at best.
 
When I launched my very first websites I invested heavily in pay-per-click advertising. At one point, I was spending over $6000 a month on Google Adwords alone!!! Seriously I really was spending that much money. It was a constant battle to tweak the website sales copy and continue to test the advertisement text just to make sure that my sales were covering the advertising payments each month. At the time I was probably just about breaking even but buying traffic in this quantity meant that I was able to fine-tune my sales pages and start to build up a list of mailing list subscribers.
 
Once you have got to the stage where you know your sales pages are converting visitors into buyers, then you can start to gear up with other methods of getting traffic to your site – writing articles, linking strategies, viral methods (eBooks etc), using your eBay ‘About Me’ page, using your link as a signature when you post on forums etc. All of these methods will win you traffic (and in most cases it will be completely free) but it will take time for the traffic to build to a worthwhile level. If you rely solely on free traffic, you really will be building your business one hit at a time.
 
Of course, once the free methods of gaining traffic start to pay off, you can begin to wind down your paid methods, though you may not want to – after all, if you are earning more in sales than you are paying for your pay-per-click traffic, why stop it?
 
As your portfolio of websites grows, you will also be able to share the traffic around a bit by linking to your own sites and of course, if you are capturing your visitors email addresses, you will be building a mailing list of people interested in the products you are offering.
 
Like I say, I appreciate that the above may not be the ground-breaking secret that you were hoping for but as with so many things online, there really is no secret. Achieving success is simply about taking action and whilst you can succeed online by spending very little money, the chances are that you will succeed a lot quicker by making a bit of an investment. You don’t have to be spending thousands of dollars a month as I was but any new business owner should be prepared to invest a few hundred dollars a month in order to get things off the ground….

About a year and a half ago, Raymond and I sat in front of our Martial Arts Master (a Yellow Belt and White Belt, respectively) in his office and offered to build a funded proposal for his martial arts school for FREE.

Why?

Because we wanted to test what we had learned from Mike Dillard with a “REAL Business” and see if these techniques would work.

So after a few conversations, Master Lee agreed to this experiment and so began our internet marketing consulting careers.

The result of it I think you are already familiar with — Master Lee’s recruitment sky rocketed, he became a media mogul on YouTube (search for “Hwa Rang Do”) and the “experiment” has evolved into a business partnership with one of the world’s top martial artists.

Something important we learned out of the funded proposal “experiment” for Hwa Rang Do, was how to actually market products and services, instead of just a business opportunity like we are taught in the MLM world.

Who is Susan and Why Does She Want to Talk to Me?

I didn’t quite realize how valuable this experience for us had been until a woman named Susan sent me an email yesterday and asked to speak to me.

You see, Susan purchased tickets for our MLM Traffic Formula LIVE in Austin, TX next month.

She had some questions about the focus of the system she wants to create next month at the event, and she wanted to do some prep work before the event. She politely requested to have a brief conversation with me, because she was serious about making the most out of that weekend.

So I agreed to speak with her and scheduled a time to talk.

Trouble Recruiting for an Old MLM…

She called and told me that she wanted to create a product-based lead system for her Herbalife Business. She said she had trouble recruiting people into Herbalife, because it’s such a well recognized brand and people immediately make assumptions before she has an opportunity to present her business opportunity properly.

Therefore, she very wisely has chosen to lead with her products.

The reason this is a good idea is because most people generally want to believe that they know something about what you are talking about.

If they have any previous experience or knowledge of what you are presenting to them (no matter how inaccurate), they immediately draw from those experiences and make decisions based on that, NOT what you presented to them, (i.e. their listening is off.)

So leading with your opportunity when you are involved in older companies like Amway, Herbalife, USANA, NuSkin, etc is usually not the best approach.

Leading with Your Products

Aside from stability, the big benefit that these big MLM companies offer is that they are constantly producing new products for their distributors to sell.

So while the opportunity brand may be old and stale, you can still lead with a novel new breakthrough product.

In speaking to Susan, I suggested that she focus on one great product, with a nice profit margin and which can produce immediate effects for her customers. She immediately knew what product that would be.

I then advised her to come up with the top benefits of this product — what pain does it relieve? what problem does it solve? what immediate results can people expect? What kind of person would need this product?

She would then use this information to craft her capture page at the workshop.

Writing Newsletters that Sell Product

Next I asked her if she was knowledgable about health and wellness and if she would feel comfortable writing about it? She said yes, she was.

So I suggested she write a few newsletters providing free and valuable information on health and wellness.

But what I suggested she write her first few newsletters on was on how to solve or provide the benefits of her lead product, without them needing to buy the product.

“Huh?”

This might seem a bit counterintuitive, but that is exactly what I told her to do.

I explained that her email newsletters and lead system need to stand alone as valuable content and information. If you do this you’ll accomplish three things:

She’ll gain the trust of her reader and build a relationship she can monetize over time via info product promos, affiliate programs, thus creating a second stream of income.

If something were to happen to her Herbalife Business, her lead system could be easily be transitioned to promote other non-herbalife products.

She’ll have established a valuable brand and possibly a new company with more potential than any MLM business can provide — YOU, INC.

When you deliver on your promises and blow people away with the value you have provided them, you become their new best friend and they will be more open than ever to any product recommendations you will make.

So the newsletter format I advised her to use for all her emails is as follows:

Write newsletter content, which delivers as best she can, on what you offered on your capture page without them needing to use the product. Make it stand alone as valuable information.

At the end of the newsletter, write something like “If you wish to enhance the benefits described in this newsletter, I highly recommend [product]…” This is where you could plug your product.

Have an opt-in form where people can request a FREE personal health consultation on how to properly implement the advice you have provided in the newsletters. This would be an opportunity to examine their overall health needs, take orders and recommend other products.

Some MLM companies may prohibit you from having sales copy or links on any website or email promoting a product (especially a nutritional product), so in that case, you may want to skip #2 and make product recommendations part of your personal health consultation.

The important thing to remember here is that your goal is to become an authority/expert first! Avoid the temptation to pitch your product right off the bat.  

Ideally, what you want to do is create a business relationship with them even before they’ve purchased any of your MLM products. This could be some kind of info product or affiliate promotion.

If someone is willing to give you money for advice, then they will definitely be willing to give you money for a product you recommend, which can potentially solve their problems. 

I expect big things out of Susan and I want the same for you.

It’s funny how a few words on paper can start a global movement, which is exactly what’s happened, with over 29,000,000 copies of his books being sold world-wide.

I’ve definitely learned a lot from Robert, and it’s been a real privilege to work with he and his team.
 
What I’d like to share with you now is one of the most valuable insights I’ve gained from my time with Robert. Please take the time to read this email today, because I can promise that you’ll never look at yourself the same way again once you do.

Have you ever thought about the word “winning”, and what it means to you?

For most of us, the word “winning”, is a very simple concept. You create a goal, and when you achieve it, you’ve won.

Well, there’s actually much more to it then that, because your subconscious mind has it’s own definition for “winning”, and whether you like it or not, you and your entire life are run by this little bugger.

If your subconscious doesn’t want you to “win” when it comes to wealth and money, you’re not going to. Period.

By definition, your subconscious thoughts and its agenda for your life are hidden from you, unless you’ve trained yourself to communicate with it.

If you don’t know what its definition of “winning” is for you right now, how can you ever move forward? And that’s the point on this letter… We’re going to find out what “winning” means to your subconscious right now…

There are 5 ways for you to win…

1: You win when you’re comfortable. This person’s primary goal is to just go through life as comfortably as possible. They don’t want stress. They don’t want to be pushed or challenged. They don’t like conflict. The just want to go through life on cruise control, hanging out with their friends, and having a good time. Everything they do is designed to support their pursuit of comfort.

This is your average, life-long employee who’s more than happy to have a safe, stable, comfortable job.

If you push this person away from that goal, and challenge them or their routine lifestyle, watch out.

2: You win by being liked. This person’s primary goal in life is to be liked by others. They want acceptance from everyone, and will do just about anything to reach that goal. They’d rather be liked, than be right or wrong.

When you put someone like this in a leadership role, the business will usually fail because they won’t be willing to make hard decisions that would anger someone. They would try to please everyone all the time because their ultimate motivation is to be liked by others.

3: You win by being right. This person is usually an expert in a specific field like a professor, lawyer, or a wife. (Just kidding ladies! ?). People who win by being right, don’t accept criticism and aren’t open to new ideas.

They tend to reach a glass ceiling when it comes to money, their career, and relationships, because they can’t accept their short-comings in order to move past them and achieve personal growth. Arguing with this person never works because they’ll always find a way to prove you wrong, even if it means sabotaging your company in the process.

In order to win, this person must be right.

4: You win by winning. This person is an achiever. Their primary motivation is to win. They are very competitive, and will do whatever it takes to win. They won’t quit, and they’ll constantly push themselves to gain the edge they need.

This category describes all successful entrepreneurs and athletes. Winning is their reward, and on the dark side, some of them will go too far and compromise their integrity in order to do so. Key Lay of Enron is a great example.

This type of person doesn’t care if others don’t like them, and they welcome discomfort because it provides them with new opportunities to win.

This is how Robert wins, and looking at my past, this is how I win… Two State Championships in cycling. The #1 marketing system in the industry. Millionaire before 30. I win, by winning. I am constantly evaluating and improving myself, and will do whatever it takes, (with integrity), to be the best. Period.
 
5: You win by losing. This person wins by being a victim. They want sympathy from others or their spouse. Just when things start to get better, they will sabotage themselves, and say, “I knew it wouldn’t work”, giving them their victory once again.

There lives are always filled with problems because they don’t win unless they lose, so they create circumstances and excuses that help them fulfill that destiny like, “Your book won’t teach me anything new. I don’t have the money. This is just another scam. I’ll give it a try…”

Now if you’re like me when I was exposed to this, you’re taking a long hard look at your life right now.

There are people who are not wealthy because they want to be comfortable. There are people who are not healthy because they want to be comfortable. There are people who are stuck in the same job without a promotion for 10 years because they want to be liked. There are people who are addicted to struggle because they win by losing.

And most likely, you see a little of yourself in each of these categories.

I know I do, but what’s important to remember, is that winning is a continuous process that is brought to an end once you’ve won, which is an event.

As soon as you’ve “won”, the process starts all over again.

This is why you tend to feel lost or unfulfilled after you achieve a goal.

I know that once Magnetic Sponsoring became the #1 marketing system in the industry, I got lazy for a year. I had won and didn’t know what to do next. I was a winner without a goal, so comfort took its place.

Once I was inspired by a new goal, my entire focus went back to “winning”, which is where I am right now.

A person born between 1946 and 1964 is commonly known as a “Baby Boomer”. They were born post World War II and many countries experienced an unusual spike in birth rates, a phenomenon commonly known as the baby boom. These people are in their forties or older and most of them are in their prime in earning power. Although they consist of about one-third of the world’s population, they account for about two-thirds of the sales. Most of them are expected to live into their eighties. Hence they are a significant group of people for the right target markets.

So, what do Baby Boomers want?

Baby Boomers want to feel young, stay fit and be active. They want to keep a youthful appearance. In other words, they don’t like to look old. Despite their effort, they can’t keep away from degenerative diseases which are creeping into their bodies. They look for smart solutions to their health and ageing problems.

A growing number of baby boomers are using nutritional supplements to maintain optimal health and combat rapid ageing. They are using these supplements to prevent or reverse the degenerative diseases that plagued their parents.

Baby Boomers’ high disposable income combined with their growing concerns about health are the foundation for the exponential growth of the Health and Wellness Industry.

Timing of Health and Wellness Market:

The Health and Wellness Industry is the largest group in the Direct Marketing Association. Many companies aim to be listed on the Stock Exchange in order to obtain public funds for the growth of their businesses. This industry will experience substantial growth in the next few decades.

Leverage Your Income
There are many ways to earn money. Straight salary is linear income. It does not matter whether you are a doctor, dentist, lawyer, accountant, engineer, teacher, or whatever you get paid by the hour for only when you work. No work, no pay.

Worse still, nowadays, more and more high paying jobs will be performance-based. This means bonus which consists of a fair portion of the total remuneration is only payable if what you agreed to deliver has been delivered on time, not how many hours you spend on the job. As a result, long hours and stress are quite common.

Professionals and employees trade their own time and effort for money. But there is a limit to how much wealth one can accumulate this way.

Several months ago I conducted a survey to find out what network marketers really wanted to learn, and what topics would be helpful to them. I discovered an overwhelming number wanted to learn more about successful duplication within their organization. Some specific questions were asked and I am answering them here.

Q. What is the most important thing that a network marketer’s organization should duplicate?

A: A successful action. I know that sounds funny but that really is what it comes down to. You’ve got to duplicate something that is doable and simple so that it doesn’t require an enormous amount of training at each level. That’s not to undermine training, but if what you’re trying to duplicate is so complicated that you can’t get very ordinary, average people to do it – if it requires you to have just completely brilliant people, then you’re going to be limited.

What ever it is that you’re duplicating… let’s just say that it’s a script for making outbound phone calls but this script has got a lot of words in it that the person delivering the script has a hard time with. Not only that, but the person receiving it has a hard time with those words. That’s not going to duplicate.

So that’s the first thing – make sure that you’re duplicating something that is simple to learn and grasp.

Q: In your own organization that you built, how did you figure out what to do and what to duplicate?

A: I learned that the first thing to do is to build a prototype that actually works. When I define the word “work” I mean that you as an individual are able to make a customer happy. And once you make that customer happy you’ve got to write it out – write out exactly what you did. Then follow your own written procedures and see if you can recreate that same happy customer in another person.

How this worked for me is that I just looked over my product line and what suited me best (my company sold personal care products). I noticed that I was around a whole bunch (being in the Navy) of guys that had bad skin — acne, problem skin. So I first got successful with myself. I had a similar situation with my skin so I used the products and found the best combinations and so forth that got me results.

From that I was able to get four other guys that were in my unit to do the same process. I wrote up what it was that I did and then I showed them how simple it was and that they too could help people that they knew and saw that had problem skin. I ended up with this whole group of rough, tough, macho guys out there selling this mud that pulled impurities out of the skin. That was the way that my organization began to duplicate.

Q: Did you find it was easy to teach your downline to do exactly what you had done?

A: NO! That’s where you have to perfect your system. You have to continually work on your systems to ensure that those systems are in place and are workable. And then this is the part that can get you?

Once a person figures out how to get success, the greatest seduction, I believe, in all of life is to always want to continue to DO that, instead of TEACHING that.

Because it seems easier to do than having the patience to sit back and allow that other person to make the same errors and mistakes that you made.

I think that is perhaps the greatest difficulty in leadership. I think that every one of the books that’s out there on leadership – that’s the part that I’ve always seen that’s missing. Having the patience to just sit there and watch and observe, and see people in your group make mistakes but not correct them at that particular moment but….to sit back and say, “Alright is this a systematic thing that I need to change? Or is this something specific to this individual that I need to change?”

I’ll give you an example for this. There’s a lady in my organization now, and she has absolutely resisted being a public speaker, and speaking in front of more than one or two people at a time. I started off encouraging her to just stand up and do nothing but introduce me. And of course she fought it, and she needed to prepare for it for a week and things like that. But in the process, I taught her how to teach herself, if you will. In other words, I told her, “Okay, what you need to do is set up a teddy bear or some kind of stuffed animal that you’re communicating to and then talk to it.”

So, the next time I’m speaking at one of her events, I’m listening to her introduce me, and I walk into the back of the room, and no one can hear her back there. Of course, I’m not going to correct her in that moment, so I wait and then I praise her.

The rule is that you praise twice and correct once.

If you ever get those ratios out of order then you’re going to have basically a “tucked tail”. That’s what they call it in the dog training world. When you’re training a dog, if the tail goes below parallel to the back, you stop training that dog (because he’s starting to feel “whipped”) and you praise the dog. So, in a similar way, you praise twice and correct once with people.

With this lady, I waited until it came back around again that she was going to be presenting. What I said to her was “Okay, it does you no good to prepare and plan and train yourself if the people can’t hear you. And so what I want you to do is to read aloud to your children.” She’s got two kids and she had already told me that she reads to them every night. I told her, “What I’d like you to do is put them on the other side of the room; don’t cuddle up in the bed with them. Be on the other side of the room and you read to them.”

She tried that and of course she emailed me back and she said, “That was unbelievable! The kids kept saying, “We can’t hear you Mom!” She began to figure out, “Oh, okay. I have to project my voice. That sound has to get to the back of the room. Just because the front of the room hears it, it doesn’t mean that the whole room hears it.”

So this is what I’m talking about. That was something that was specific to that person that I had to assess – “Okay, there is something that she needs help with. What specific thing does she need training in?” Then I figured out a way to teach her to do that.

Now, she was just on a radio talk show and she’s been requested to come back and be a speaker in this community of events that happens every week. She is becoming that public speaker that she resisted being for so long. And of course, now she ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT. I’ve seen her speak; she’s good.

Being a leader means developing a simple, workable system and then having the patience to teach others – in spite of the discomfort of sitting through their mistakes.

It’s not always easy but it can be really profitable for you.

Why?

What do you do?

Do you create a slick new marketing campaign with a replicated website, audio CD’s, DVD movies, post cards, or brochures that you can get out into the marketing and in the hands of new reps?

Seems like the logical thing to do right?

Well in my opinion, that would be the wrong path to take.

Company owners have to do one thing to kick-start their company…

Recruit existing leaders who have contacts, relationships, and marketing skills.

You could spend months developing marketing systems and tools, and you’ll have to have at bare-minimum, a nice replicated site with an opportunity/product presentation, but once leaders start to find the opportunity, they’ll do what they always do… Develop their own tools and systems.

So your job as the company owner is to seek out and build relationships with existing MLM Leaders.

And by the way… Your job’s no different if you’re just a distributor! (But you already know this and how to execute this strategy if you’ve read Magnetic Sponsoring).

Your next job is to set up and coordinate a massive company launch, complete with a count-down timer, “founder’s bonuses”, etc…

Rich people ARE lucky.  VERY lucky.  There’s a way to create yours and ride it to a mountain of money…

I realize saying “rich people are lucky” is kind of taboo among us marketers and business owners.  It is all about personal responsibility and being proactive towards success.

However, from experience I know there’s only so much I can do to get results.  A lot of it depends on putting forth the energy and effort, and then letting “it” happen. 

By consistently submitting articles to over 10 directories daily, following up with prospects, making contacts, and studying and implementing my knowledge, great things just “happen”.

I mean really.  Am I the one picking up my prospect’s phone and dialing my own number for them?  Am I putting in the name and email address of my prospect over at my capture page 15 times a day? 

No.

I let it happen.  I just do what I know will create these “lucky” moments multiple times a day for me.  But I had to discover these lucky moments, and then realize that I was getting lucky in order to keep doing those same actions.

Not everything you do as a marketer will work, especially if you’re new.  In fact, majority of it wont, until you’ve either perfected it or realized it’s a bad strategy. 

However, through your persistency, you’ll eventually get lucky. 

You’ll start seeing results consistently through your pay per click advertising.  People will start visiting your website from the articles you write and submit everyday.  You’ll be getting positive feedback from the newsletters you send out to your list. 

You’ll start getting sign-ups. 

The successful entrepreneurs are the ones who are smart enough to know when they are getting lucky, and then ride that wave of “luck”.  They don’t allow themselves to quit on it because they just get tired of it.

When you discover your lucky moments, don’t get bored with your results and quit doing what you are doing to get them.  Ride that wave of success and build on it.
